Temporary Residence Transition (TRT)
For 482/457 visa holders. You must have worked for your sponsoring employer for at least 2 years in the same role before nomination.

Direct Entry
For overseas applicants or those who haven't worked with the sponsor on a temporary visa. Requires a skills assessment.

The critical deadline
The date most 482 holders don't know
You must be under 45 when your employer nominates you for the 186. With a 2-year TRT work requirement, your 482 must be granted early enough to complete that work before your birthday.
Miss this date and the TRT pathway closes. The only remaining option is Direct Entry, which requires a skills assessment and different requirements.
