482 to 186 TRT
Timeline Calculator

On a 482 Skills in Demand visa and planning the 186 Employer Nomination (TRT stream) for PR? Enter your date of birth to find out the critical deadline your visa journey depends on.

How the 186 TRT timeline works

The 186 Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) stream requires you to have worked for your sponsoring employer for at least 2 years on a 457 or 482 visa before you can be nominated for permanent residence.

The age limit for the 186 visa is 45 years old at time of nomination (with limited exemptions for some occupations). This means you need to complete your 2-year work requirement and lodge your 186 nomination before your 45th birthday.

The critical date is when your 482 visa was granted — that starts the 2-year clock. If your 482 is granted too late, the clock won't finish before you turn 45.

Example

If you turn 45 on 5 April 2029, your 2-year clock must finish by then. That means your 482 must be granted no later than 5 April 2027 — giving you exactly 2 years to complete the work requirement and lodge your 186 nomination in time.
