2025-26 Migration Program Stays at 185,000 Permanent Visas
The Australian Government has confirmed the permanent migration program will remain at 185,000 visas for 2025-26. State and Territory nominated skilled visas will also stay at current planning levels.
Official source ↗On 12 September 2025, Australian Government and State and Territory ministers met to discuss migration planning. According to Home Affairs, the Federal Government has confirmed that the 2025-26 permanent Migration Program will stay steady at 185,000 permanent visas, which aligns with long-term sustainable migration levels.
State and Territory nominated skilled and regional visa places will continue at the same planning levels as previous years. These visas are important for addressing skills shortages in areas like regional healthcare, education, construction and engineering, especially in smaller states and territories.
The Government also indicated its intention to reduce visa processing times for highly skilled migrants. While State and Territory ministers advocated for additional visa places, the overall numbers remain unchanged for 2025-26.
