The Home Affairs Minister addressed the Migration Institute of Australia's National Conference on 2 October 2026, emphasising that migration strengthens Australia's economy, supports essential industries, and enriches society. The Minister stated that Australia will continue to welcome people who want to make a genuine contribution to the country. According to the 2026 Intergenerational Report cited by the Minister, migration will play an increasingly important role in addressing Australia's rapidly aging population, severe workforce shortages, and growing demand for health, aged care and disability services. However, the Minister also clarified that this welcoming approach does not mean everyone can come to or remain in Australia. The speech focused on the Government's philosophy rather than announcing specific changes to visa processing, eligibility criteria, or application procedures. Visa applicants should continue to monitor official Home Affairs channels for any policy updates.
