Queensland opens new funding round for skills training programs
Queensland is accepting applications for the second round of its Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative, offering training and employment opportunities across the state.
Official source ↗The Queensland Government has opened applications for the next funding round of its Skilling Queenslanders for Work program. This initiative provides skills training and employment opportunities for Queenslanders seeking work or career advancement. The first round in 2026-27 supported 5,200 people through 166 projects, with three-quarters located in regional areas. Applications for the second round close on Thursday, October 22, 2026 at 5pm. Three core programs are available: Community Work Skills, Work Skills Traineeships, and Get Set for Work. The program aims to address skills shortages across Queensland industries and regions by simplifying the application process and strengthening connections between training and local workforce needs. While this is a domestic employment program, visa applicants should note that skilled employment pathways in Australia may be affected by local workforce development initiatives. For specific advice on how this relates to visa eligibility or sponsorship requirements, applicants should consult Home Affairs or a registered migration agent.
