State and territory nomination allocations set for 2025-26

Each year, Australian states and territories receive a set number of nominations they can give to skilled migrants. For 2025-26, the total allocation across all states and territories is 20,350 nominations. These allocations allow states and territories to nominate people for two visa types: Skilled – Nominated (subclass 190) and Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491).

The allocations vary by state and territory based on their workforce needs and demographic requirements. Victoria has the largest allocation for subclass 190 visas (2,700), while the Northern Territory has the smallest (850). For subclass 491 visas, Western Australia receives the most (1,400) and Tasmania the least (650).

It's important to understand that nomination allocations are not the same as visa grants. These numbers represent how many new primary applicants each state or territory can nominate during the program year. The actual number of visas granted depends on the Migration Program planning levels and processing priorities set by the Department of Home Affairs.
